Hotdogsarefree is right. The hearing is the last sense to go and there have been reported cases where people wake up from their coma and remember what was said to them.

Hearing IS the last sense to go, and it is the first sense to come back. Many comatose patients will report what they heard while they were in a coma. It is quite similar to being asleep, and you can still hear things when you are sleeping can't you?
