Do you have any compassion for the TB man? Do you think he will survive?

Actually, the news report I heard yesterday said he wasn't even symptomatic. So its possible that he is a carrier...that does happen with TB. As to whether I feel compassion for him, for me, the jury is out. His story and the CDC's story are entirely different. If what HE said is true and that he was never fully informed of the severity of his illness before he started traveling, then yes, I can sympathize with him. Once he did find out, he says he panicked...which I can totally understand. If I were that sick I would want to get back to the US for treatment. I don't believe I would have done it the way he did, but I can at least understand the feelings.However if the CDC's side of the story is true and the guy DID understand the severity of his illness and knowingly put others at risk, then no, I don't have any compassion for him. He was selfish, at the very least.

i'm sorry he's got tb but i don't feel bad for him. he'll survive. he needs to be responsible for the medical bills incurred by the people he may have infected.

I think he will survive. Even his wife is not positive for TB. He probably did not know how serious the situation was,remember he was getting married and probably that was all he was thinking about.

No, I don't. He's very selfish,self-centered,negligen... He's exactly where he should be until they can find a treatment for his resistant form of TB. Just like that guy a few months ago who was quarantined because he refused to wear a face mask. I mean, come on! Stupid, stupid, stupid guy.

sadly i do not think he is going to survive. as for compassion, i do feel badly for him, yet at the same time i think he was being selfish for not going into solitary confinement when he was told to. he put so many people at risk.

We'll find out in the next 16 days. The strain of TB he has will either kill him VERY quickly (16 days TOPS), or he'll heal VERY slowly. He is quarentined because the type he has does not respond to ANY drugs. It's all up to his body now.

I feel sorry that he is so ill and I hope he recovers. However, new information has come out that he knew that he had TB and had been warned by a doctor that he could pass it on. He inquired if it would be alright to travel if he wore a mask. No one knows yet if the doctor gave him the ok, or if in fact, he wore a mask. TB is so contagious that it would seem outrageous for a doctor to give him approval to fly on an airplane and risk infecting hundreds of other passengers. It has been shown from cases in the past that one passenger with a communicable illness can cause many other passengers to become ill. If this man consciously flew knowing the extent of his illness I think he should be penalized for spreading the illness. There have been cases where people who knowingly infected other people with AIDS were prosecuted. Why should this case be any different? We just have to wait to hear the facts because at this time, the information is sketchy.

Talk about politically correct insanity.
If we were talking about an HIV/AIDs sufferer they would be screaming homophobia. But we are talking TB so now all of a sudden a contagious disease with initials is not okay?
Contagious diseases are all over the U.S. and the world, most are preventable. Many people are carriers yet when say its okay for one disease to run rampant and we can't test those people, something is very wrong with the PC picture.

No Compassion, but this incident demonstrates, that there is a great need for preventive healthcare for all, including low income, legal and illeagal immigrants. You never know, who sits next to you at the movies, do you???
