Do thyroid problems cause acne?

The doctor thinks I might have hyperthyroidism. Can this condition make break-outs worse?
Answer:
Yeah it does make acne worse. Your immune system is probably weak from the thyroid problem. I had more acne before I got mine treated. I've been taking Tapazol for the last 2 years and my TSH levels are back in the norm and don't have but a pimple or two pop up once a month usually.
they can. better to trust the medical professional who is treating you and knows your medical history then Yahoo.
Yes, some breakouts are caused by hormones that are out of balance. Thy thyroid controls several hormones. If your thyroid is putting out too much hormones it can cause the unbalance.
How did your doctor determine your hyperthyroidism? Your doctor needs to perform TSH and T4 testing, at the least. Acne is not generally a symptom of an overactive thyroid; in fact, your skin should be clearer as a result and your hair finer (it's not as great as it sounds). I've included a link where you can read more information about this condition.
It does cause your skin to be more oily.
