A vaccination against it was developed decades ago, and it has been a required immunization for babies for as long as I can remember. If you find anyone who had it, they'd have to be pretty old. You'd have a lot more luck with diabetes or something like that.
I have to wonder where you are located and what kind of class project this could be? In the US we have very few cases of diptheria because of the immunizations that children receive when they are under a year of age. Why do you need people with active cases? Or are you looking for people who have had it and recovered??
