Do wheat and nut allergys have different levels? How careful do we have to be?

We weren't informed of how badly my son reacts to the above so don't know just how careful we have to be. His only symptons are nausea and dizziness. He had a blood test to diagnose the problem but we weren't told anything other than that he has an allergy to both. Any suggestions?
Answer:
every person is different, and it may well be he has different levels of allergy to both things if he's tested positive to both. I have one friend who can't eat peanuts (they make her sick) but she can eat things made in factories where nut ingredients are used, including peanut oil. But I have another friend who is highly allergic and just touching peanuts will bring her out in a rash and she's gone into anaphylactic shock before (ie the airway closes and this can be fatal if they're not given an adrenaline shot or immediate medical attention) which is absolutely terrifying. Not all allergy sufferers get such drastic symptoms, but some do. I'd recommend you go back to your doctor just to confirm a few details, and find out the severity of his allergies and any precautions you need to take. Just 10 minutes to put your mind at rest - most likely, your son won't be at risk, but it's important you know one way or the other. Worst case scenario is that he would be susceptible, and as a parent, you'd never be able to forgive yourself for jeopardising your son's life, just because you were worried about annoying the doctor! They're there to be pestered, and this way you'll know how best to manage your son's allergy (it'll be small things like if he goes round to a friend's house for dinner, what he can and can't eat, so you can let their mum or dad know in advance). It's probably just an irritating niggle that you'd like to get straight, but you can't put a price on your son's life. :)
All alergies have differing levels of severity, they can also increase or decrease in severity over time. One person may have an anaphylactic response to gluten whereas another may only get an upset stomach. Alergies should always be taken very seriously.
There are definately different levels/ reactions with wheat -
I get stomach problems - vomiting and IBS
Skin outbreaks and it really messes with my moods.
My son gets uncontrollable moods which include violent outbursts.
My daughter just gets headaches and moodiness.
Don't know much about nut allergies but I have heard they can be nasty.
Best advice is to ask a doctor who specialises in allergies and until then just avoid those foods.
If you know your son is allergic to something, don't give it to him. I have multiple allergies. When I eat something I am not suppose to have, I usually get a headache and diarrhea, or, break out in hives. The effects, no matter how mild, can be very annoying and possibly contribute to other problems.
You should know the extent of his reactions to certain foods, dust, etc..to be able to head off problems. If your physician did allergy testing, ask for a copy of the results.
Good Luck
Nuts you have to take seriously. Each time he gest exposed can get worse. Nut allergies usually don't go away in time. They tend to stay. My daughter has them. Wheat on the other hand they will have to test him for Celiac. I would try hard to stay away from both if possible until you have further testing done. If they told you he is allergic to both then I suggest you stay away unless you want one sick little guy. It is not fun. I know it is hard, but they are making more and more things without wheat and nuts.
If your son had blood drawn, he very likely had a RAST. Below is a table that stratifies RAST results:Class,Specific IgE,Levels of Antibodies0,%26lt;0.35,Absent
1,0.36 - 0.59,Low
2,0.60 - 3.49,Moderate
3,3.50 - 17.49,High
4,17.50 - 49.99,Very High
5,50 - 99.99,Very High
6,%26gt;100,Very HighDizziness is a troublesome symptom, it could indicate a drop in blood pressure. Make sure you always carry your epi-pens and keep your son away from both allergens.
